To celebrate, and with impeccable timing, masked production duo AmPm drop the latest single from their city-themed series, ‘Amsterdam’. This week, after over 18 months of waiting, the electronic music industry juggernaut that is the Amsterdam Dance Event finally opens its doors to a waiting world. Since their debut in 2017, the Japanese duo have found widespread global success, with collaborations with 26 vocalists from 11 countries in Asia and around the world. Accompanied by a music video that captures the spirit of the Netherlands’ famed capital city, new track ‘Amsterdam’ follows in the footsteps of previous AmPm singles ‘Tokyo’, ‘New York City’ and ‘Jakarta’.

A beautiful tech-house track that strays into the deeper elements of the genre while still retaining a lighter, more chilled, melodic side, ‘Amsterdam’ sees the masked duo paying obvious tribute to a city considered by many as one of the key epicentres of dance music:

“Amsterdam is one of our favorite cities,” the pair confirmed, “and for the past few years we have participated in the Amsterdam Dance Event, a dance music festival that is held in October – so during the fall season, we have a lot of fond memories of Amsterdam.

“Amsterdam is a compact city that is nonetheless rich in nature and tradition, and dance music is deeply ingrained in the culture. We wanted to capture this on our track.

“The pandemic has prevented us from joining ADE this year, but we’re happy we can release this track with our partners in the Netherlands.

Follow us on socials This wet and windy season is another part of the Amsterdam experience, and we have tried to produce a piece of dance music that goes great with those conditions – so please take a listen while thinking of Amsterdam.”

Find out more about AmPm’s Amsterdam inspiration on a recent Medium article the pair wrote to discuss their experiences and the inspirations the city left with them:  As DJ/Producers, AmPm are also known for their productions for V6 and Ken Hirai from Japan, while internationally they’ve been asked to remix for some of the planet’s biggest artists, including Afrojack and Nicky Romero, bringing them to the attention of a huge global audience. As the Covid travel restrictions begin to ease, the pair look set to return to a huge calendar schedule that will take them back to fans of their music all over the world. Alongside their music, they’ve dominated stages around the world, from Ultra Miami to shows in Korea and Japan.

Follow us on socials This AVICII ARENA TOGETHER FOR A BETTER DAY concert is intended to be the first of an annual event. 14-year-old rising star Ella Tiritiello, who captured the world’s attention with her rendition of Avicii’s song “For A Better Day” at the inauguration of the Avicii Arena will also perform, and the evening will include tributes to Avicii’s musical heritage as well as collaborations and surprise guests. The Tim Bergling Foundation and Avicii Arena announced today the first AVICII ARENA TOGETHER FOR A BETTER DAY concert will be December 1 at the Avicii Arena in Stockholm. “I hope we succeed in creating a feeling that we really do this together, because it is only together that we can make a difference,” says Klas Bergling.

In May when the iconic landmark Ericsson Globe changed its name to Avicii Arena to honor Tim Bergling/aka Avicii,  it was announced that in addition to its usual activities with concerts, sports and other events, the arena would be a meeting place for young people’s mental health.  The vision is to remove the stigma surrounding mental health, reduce mental illness among young people and get more people involved in the issue.  Of paramount importance is to show what strength and power there is in young people if they are given the right tools and conditions. The name of the concert was derived from the Tim Bergling Foundation’s work with the For A Better Day fundraiser, where young people posted their ideas about what they need to have a better future.   Stefan Olsson will be conducting the evening. “Young people are our future and we must be afraid for them. Tickets will be released on October 13 at 10.00 via

The concert was created to draw attention to the need to help young people struggling with mental health issues and suicide and the alarming statistics that show their struggles increasing. It is unacceptable that they are getting worse and that suicide rates are rising in that group – and it is our duty to do what we can to break that trend.”

Artists performing at the concert will come from multiple genres including EDM, classical music, rock,  pop, R’n’B, and hip hop.   The event highlights mostly Swedish artists including Håkan Hellström, Miriam Bryant, Galantis, Amason, Annika Norlin, Cherrie, A36, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and more.

Louis La Roche releases ‘One Big Gay Disco’ and announces new album !

Louis La Roche said: “I’ve always been fascinated with the origins of disco and house music. So, I decided, fuck you, chopped up the audio, rearranged it and made it a positive thing.”

The video harks back to retro, grainy VHS footage and the idea of getting lost in music – which is what made those clubs so special in the halcyon days of disco, as “no one cared when the lights were off and the music was playing”, Louis La Roche adds. I found some hate speech stating that America is “One Big Gay Disco”, as if that was a bad thing. His music has been supported by radio and club DJs including Annie Mac, Pete Tong, Fatboy Slim, Mark Ronson, Armand Van Helden, Diplo, and Faithless’s Sister Bliss. He supported Kylie Minogue and has written for several TV shows, including Channel 4’s ‘Skins’. The track sees Louis La Roche reposition hate speech and turn it into an uplifting celebration of house & disco music, and an anthem for the LGBTQ+ community. Looking back at photos and footage, the crowd mixed so much more than they do now. UK Artist Louis La Roche releases the disco funk odyssey ‘One Big Gay Disco’ – a perfect homage to the open-minded ‘70s club scene, with a glittering, nostalgic video. Complete with the swirling strings and hypnotic beats which hark back to feel-good disco classics. ‘One Big Gay Disco’ is taken from Louis La Roche’s fourth studio album, ‘We’re Not So Different’, released on Ever After Records on 29 October. Brett Ewels, best known by his stage name Louis La Roche, is a producer, remixer and DJ from Norwich, UK. He released his debut LP ‘To Rest Is to Rust’ on Ever After Records in 2015, which was followed by ‘Sleepless Nights’ in 2017, and ‘Saturday Night Griever’ in 2020. Follow us on socials Louis La Roche has produced official remixes for Madonna, Fatboy Slim, Public Service Broadcasting and produced for bands Crystal Bats and Delfy, amongst others. Black, Gay, White, Straight, Male, Female, Trans…, nobody cared about who you were under those lights. ‘One Big Gay Disco’ could easily have lit up the iconic dancefloors of Studio 54, The Loft and Paradise Garage.

Martin Garrix, Tinie and Julian Jordan bring the heat with ‘Diamonds’!

I rushed to his house and we finished the demo together that night. This is the essence behind the lyrics and production that Martin, Julian and I have worked on for ‘Diamonds’ and have applied to many records over the years. The accompanying music video (which will premiere around 2PM CEST today) displays the festival energy the track breathes, with artistic live performance moments from various festivals including Creamfields and Untold Festival shot on film. After premiering ‘Diamonds’ at his first show in 1,5 years, the song caused a major buzz on social media and quickly found itself among the most anticipated IDs from his set. While experimenting with a lot of different sounds the past year, Garrix reassured fans that he was still working on hard-hitting festival music, but was waiting to get back on stage to release these. I’m so excited for the world to hear what we have been cooking up.”

Martin Garrix: ‘’I missed being on stage so much, and finally playing this track in front of a crowd during my first shows in almost two years felt insane. To also have both Julian and Tinie join me on stage to perform the track was so special. Combine all of this with Tinie’s infectious vocals and a banger is born.’’

Tinie’s rousing raps perfectly complement the hard-hitting energy of the track that marks Garrix’s grand entrance back to the festivals.

Tinie: “The most precious stones that shine the brightest, come from the darkest places and under the most pressurised conditions. Delivering the heat as promised, ‘Diamonds’ was surely worth the wait. Martin Garrix has teamed up with fellow DJ/producer Julian Jordan and British rapper Tinie for his first club banger in almost a year: ‘Diamonds ’. Starting as a first demo between Jordan and Garrix, the latter proposed to also include Tinie on the track.

Julian Jordan: ‘’While working on ‘Diamonds’ I got a call from Martijn in the middle of the night; he had the idea of putting Tinie on the track. A few weeks later Tinie came to Amsterdam to record the vocals and the session was so much fun.

Diamonds is a track that is all about energy, something fresh and new but definitely made for huge crowds. I’m really happy we finally get to release this one!’’. Follow us on socials

As pretty much everyone in trancedom knows, John 00 Fleming is not adverse to the epic. John & Fuenka give the opening minutes to scene-setting ambience, as timbale percussion, chirping cicadas and ethnic harmonies initially swirl those ‘Corruption’ waters deep. In a measured fashion it then enters a five + minute run of hypnotic, progressive throb, applying layers of diving-bell-deep drums, earthmoving bass and coolly curling 303. Despite its expansive runtime, you’ll never be in any doubt that our protagonists’ have a clear endgame in mind for ‘Corruption’. There is though the epic and then there’s the EPIC, and there’s no prizes for guessing which of the two ‘Corruption’ falls into. For the track, John’s been joined by JOOF Recordings cohorts Fuenka, and collectively the UK trio have gone beyond in their mission to musically encapsulate its theme. Now for those anticipating a classic three-act trancer, well, we’ll refer you back to that previous comment on “epic”. Indeed, the track has something of its own odyssey-like ‘story-within-a-story’ to unwrap. A track you could (and will!) loop for hours, ‘Chapter 3: Corruption’ is available as of today:

Follow us on socials That’s brought into the sharpest of perspectives around the nine-minute mark, as the towering chime of its majestic leadline rips free with a power that must be heard to be believed.Again carrying bespoke hand-drawn, JOOF-commissioned artwork, ‘Corruption’s cover echoes the ‘twist’ like ambiguity that’s now been thrown into the album’s storyline. Standing 17 minutes tall, the track is the third ‘Chapter’ from John’s album-prefacing/ breadcrumb-trail-laying run of 2021 singles. Following its ‘Explorer’ introducer and the world surveying ‘The Finding’, ‘Corruption’ suggests all’s not quite as rosy as first appeared to our (presumably) inter-planetary visitor.

James Hurr and Worbey & Farrell deliver exhilarating ‘Leyenda’ and announce the album !

By EDM Nations – October 3, 2021 45 0
Steven Worbey and Kevin Farrell formed Worbey & Farrell in 2003, launching at the Royal Opera House and have performed at many prestigious concert halls and festivals including Royal Festival Hall, Cadogan Hall, Usher Hall, Cheltenham Music Festival, Buxton International Festival, Isle of Wight Festival and received two Five Star Scotsman reviews at the Edinburgh Festival. The worlds of classical and electronic music join together as internationally renowned concert pianists Worbey & Farrell collaborate with electronic music superstar producer James Hurr on the exhilarating ‘Leyenda’. His work has received support from BBC Radio 1 and Kiss FM, clocking up over 100 million Spotify streams. This emotionally charged tone will be felt throughout the album, featuring music the trio composed together from the very beginning of the pandemic, through to when things became more settled. Follow us on socials ‘Leyenda’ is the dramatic reworking of Spanish composer Isaac Albéniz’s famous work and will be the title track of the trio’s eagerly awaited debut album released on 12 November. They are regulars on radio and television including BBC Radio’s Friday Night is Music Night, BBC Radio 3’s In Tune, BBC Radio 4’s Front Row, BBC2’s The Culture Show and ITV’s This Morning. James Hurr saw the potential to use this unusual sound in an electronic dance track and it became the catalyst for their album together. Whilst ‘Leyenda’ was originally composed by Albeniz for the piano, it is more famous on the guitar and when Worbey & Farrell perform ’Leyenda’ in their live shows, they use a special technique to make the piano sound like a plucked guitar. Three artists’ interpretation of a world gone mad! His collaboration roster reads like a who’s who of pop and dance (Kylie, Todd Terry, Robbie Williams). Recent projects include Basement Jaxx, Danny Howard, Mark Knight, and Beverley Knight. His music has featured across all major labels, plus Ministry, Spinnin’, Ultra, Armada, and Toolroom. James Hurr is regarded as the go-to producer in the electronic scene, and a prolific artist/writer/producer.

It fits my vision on stage, but with a completely different approach when it comes to the sound. And this past year made me think a lot. It’s dark, it’s edgy and it will definitely be the new Danny Avila.”

Follow us on socials I figured there was not that much exciting new music to play anymore, and I also reached a point where I just wanted to do my own thing. The Spanish DJ and producer, who has consistenty ranked in the Top 60 of DJ Mag’s annual Top 100 list for the past five years, found himself at a crossroads and chose to create his own path, leaving his comfort zone to start working on a brand-new concept dubbed Mainstage Techno. Especially artists that have achieved what Danny Avila has at such an early age could find themselves looking for a breath of fresh air one day. His debut record on Armada Music is both the start and the culmination of that courageaous decision: ‘Mother & Father’ (feat. I come from a very different background than most of the EDM artists, I started djing in Marbella and Ibiza when I was very young and I grew up listening to completely different music than what I am probably known for. DANNY AVILA

“I started working on the Mainstage Techno topic about a year ago, but I decided to not show absolutely anything about it until I was 100% sure the concept was ready and the music too”, Danny Avila says. I wanted to not care about what the artists are playing before or after me, what trend is popular right now or where in the world I play. Bukhu). Mainstage Techno is a combination of pure underground sounds, but in a more energetic and faster structure. From the hypnotic vocal chants that draw from Mongolian artist Bukhu’s 2021 single of the same name to the stomping kick drums and incendiary beat drops, this track carries some serious firepower and makes clear in no uncertain terms that dance floors are meant to be blazing. Premiered live at this year’s digital edition of Tomorrowland, ‘Mother & Father’ and is the first official release under Danny Avila’s Mainstage Techno project. So underground music has always been a part of me. “For me, the best way to present new music was at Tomorrowland.

‘Origins’ – Activa’s first artist album in a decade, arrives today !

To a degree he was caught in its second substantial producer wave – a time when enthusiasm & access were skyrocketing. Both as a traditionally laid out artist album, that someone could move in & out of as their mood takes, but also as something that could be experienced mixed, as a start-through-finish one. “To have had many other co-production hands on something this personal”, he says, didn’t make much sense to me” So that side of things has been kept tight. On the surface ‘Origins’ origin story is a relatively straightforward one. Rather then than remix/re-master his tracks of old, he decided to record an album that tonally had its head in the heyday game, but with production capabilities 20 years more progressed and finessed. As with many, production values weren’t always in step with quality. Arriving a full decade after his last LP (2011’s ‘To The Point’), ‘Origins’ , is the third album from UK artist Rob ‘Activa’ Stevenson. Follow us on socials It’s already delivered us instrumental brilliance like ‘Polestar’ & ‘Into Pieces’, and spellbinding vocal numbers including the ‘Return To Life’, ‘Fall In’ and its current single, ‘Stranger’ w/Jennifer Rene. While Rob shares the stage with many a singer, ‘Origins’ is as notable for being largely absent of co-producers. It’s the motivation behind the motivation that makes ‘Origins’ that much more intriguing (and arguably even unique). It’s something that sticks regularly in the gut of many an artist – both inside the genre and out. Unlike others though, it was something that he couldn’t get past and felt compelled to address. Hence, Rob allowed nothing of that nature to dilute or pollute this singularly heritage-focussed album. Essentially, for Stevenson the album is something of a do-over – a go-around or perhaps even ‘a second run’. It just a right place, right time, but above all a right skill-set opportunity to address a few early production wrongs!” he concludes. “Its main theme, states Activa is to re-represent the music I grew up with. Imagine perhaps a long-player with all of PvD’s punch, Sasha’s savvy, Ferry’s feel and Armin’s acumen, which has lain unheard – almost time-capsule-like – to this day. That has opened the gateway to instrumental cuts like ‘Fade From View’, ‘Anamara’ and ‘Journey Home’ – ones that, had they been produced back in the day, would’ve long since have passed onto classic status.“Just don’t call this ‘a redemption arc’, quips Rob. Throughout ‘Origins’ production I always knew I wanted the release to work in a dual capacity. The structure of that version on the release is highly representative of the music compilations I listened to, and was inspired by in my youth”, Rob says. Activa

Throughout ‘Origins’ production, Rob was ruthless in his excising anything remotely ‘2.0’ in terms of sound, effect, technique or – heaven forbid – trend-chase. Rob is the first to admit that he wasn’t immune to this. If you can, well you’re not a million miles from ‘Origins’.Over the course of the year Activa’s lit a trail to the album, which has run through spring, summer and into the autumn. “I feel that progress is only really progress if things actually get better, he says, and I’m not sure that’s always been the case with trance. Contextually, Rob’s production career began after the trance space race had already been won – its ‘moonshot’ certified. As a genre, it often moves far away from what it used to be – at times becoming a near caricature of itself”. Across its 15 tracks, only Orkidea, Rolo Green and John Dopping make appearances, and that’s something Rob ascribes to the nature of the release. This though is only half its story.
